Peru, January, 2018

After some travel complications caused by the unusual snow which hit Charleston which resulted in closure of the airport, things have been going smoothly with this first mission trip of the new year.  Everyone arrived safely in Peru from as far away as Texas and California.

The team is 17, made up of 4 graduate dentists, 6 seniors of MUSC, 3 interpreters, and 4 helpers.  Talk about flexibility.  The helpers have undertaken to sterilized instruments, assist with restorative care, and helped fit reading glasses.  The students are doing a great job of caring for the patients, gaining invaluable experience, especially as they approach graduation in just a few months.

The good news is that we have been able to render care to more than 100 dental patients and 50 optical patients each day.  The sad news is that some needs are beyond our capability to treat.  However, we hope that everyone seen feels loved and appreciates our effort to pray for them.  Many have made professions of faith in Jesus and we trust the seeds of God’s love will grow in their hearts.

Sincere thanks to our friends and family who support and pray for our team.  We appreciate your interest and are grateful for the role that you play.
