DCF Plans To Resume Mission Trips in September

After a long delay due to covid, plans are now underway to return to overseas service later this year. Good Samaritan Mission in Honduras is once again requesting teams to support their various ministry projects. We will be the first healthcare team to return, Lord willing, when we serve September 18-25.

Unfortunately, MUSC continues to restrict international travel for students. It may be 2022 before will be allowed to participate on a DCF team.

The Apostle Paul reminds the Christians in Colossae that as God’s chosen ones holy and beloved, to put on compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. (Col 4:2). Oh how I fail in seeking to follow this admonition, especially in the patience arena. I suspect that most of us have had times during the pandemic when our patience has worn thin.

My second overseas mission trip many years ago was to Honduras. I have since returned many, many times to serve these lovely people. Their country has much to offer, but suffers from natural disasters, political instability, lack of economic opportunity, and even gang violence. My heart breaks when I see families desperate for hope walking hundreds of miles to somehow seek entrance into the U.S.

We hope that by September that the covid restrictions on both domestic and international air travel will be eased. However, please know that we will continually monitor the situation in Honduras with our local partners who will host our team.

The plan is to hopefully have a full team to not only render dental care, but to also be able to offer optical to the patients and interaction with the kids. Please consider joining with us in this effort. Registration is open on the DCF website.

Also for your information, I am planning on participating on Global Health Outreach teams in October (Dominican) and November (Nicaragua) for anyone who might be interested.

My best to each of you as we look optimistically to the coming months,

Dr. Bill
